Coming September 2026: High‑quality, teacher‑led nursery provision for children aged 2–4 years
Tadworth Primary School is delighted to announce the opening of our brand‑new Nursery provision in September 2026. Our Nursery will offer a welcoming, nurturing, and inspiring environment where young children can begin their learning journey with confidence and joy.
Our purpose‑built Nursery will have 24 places per session and will offer places for families accessing term time only 15 & 30 hour funded provision as well as self-funded sessions.
A Stimulating and Nurturing Early Years Environment
Our exciting new Nursery space has been thoughtfully designed to provide a rich Early Years environment that supports children’s development through high‑quality play. We believe that play is the engine of learning, and our environment will promote exploration, curiosity, creativity, and independence.
Guided by our school ethos, “Enjoy & Achieve,” we are passionate about the transformative power of early education. We understand that a child’s first experiences of school lay the foundations for their future learning, wellbeing, and character. At Tadworth, every child will be supported to become a happy, inquisitive, and confident learner.
Caring, Experienced Staff and Strong Relationships
Our Nursery team will be led by an experienced and qualified teacher, supported by caring practitioners who are dedicated to helping every child reach their potential.
Each child will be assigned a Key Person from day one to ensure emotional security and the development of trusting relationships.
We place great importance on working in partnership with families and will support a smooth transition from home to Nursery through:
- One Page Profiles: Shared by families, to help us understand your child’s individual needs and interests
- Stay and Play sessions: Allowing children to explore the Nursery environment alongside a familiar adult
- Open communication between home and school: Building strong relationships from the very beginning
Every child will receive a warm and personalised welcome into our Tadworth community.

Frequently Asked Questions – Funding & Eligibility
Who is eligible for a nursery place at Tadworth Primary & Nursery School?
Our Nursery is open to children from the term after their 2nd birthday until they start Reception. Places are subject to availability and confirmation of eligibility where funding is used.
What funded nursery places do you offer?
We offer both:
15 hours of funded early education, and
30 hours of funded childcare,
for eligible families, in line with current government guidance. All funded places are term time only.
Is my child eligible for 15 hours of funding?
Most children in England are entitled to 15 hours of funded early education per week:
From the term after their 3rd birthday, and
Some children may be eligible from the term after their 2nd birthday, depending on government criteria.
Eligibility is assessed externally and confirmation will be required before a funded place can be allocated.
Who is eligible for 30 hours of funded childcare?
The 30‑hour funding is available to working families who meet the government’s eligibility criteria. Both parents (or the sole parent in a single‑parent household) usually need to be working and earning the required minimum income.
Families must apply for this funding and receive a valid eligibility code, which must be reconfirmed regularly in line with government guidance.
When should I apply for funding?
You can apply for funding through the Childcare Choices website once your child meets the age criteria. We recommend checking your eligibility early to ensure your funding is in place for a September 2026 start.
Funding must be approved and confirmed before it can be applied to a Nursery place.
What if my funding status changes?
If your funding eligibility changes, please inform the school as soon as possible. We will support families through any transitions and discuss available options where relevant, in line with local authority guidance.
Can I apply for a nursery place before my child is eligible for funding?
Yes. Families are welcome to register their interest in a Nursery place in advance and self-funded sessions may be available. Funding eligibility can be confirmed closer to your child’s start date.
Registering your interest early helps us plan places and keep families informed.
Does a nursery place guarantee a place in Reception at Tadworth Primary School?
Children attending our Nursery will be part of the Tadworth learning community; however, a Nursery place does not automatically guarantee a Reception place. Applications for Reception must be made through the local authority admissions process.
Who can I speak to if I have further questions about funding or eligibility?
If you have any questions about funded places, eligibility, or our Nursery provision, please contact the school office and ask to speak with our School Business Manager, Mrs Tara Cooke, who will be happy to help.
How to Apply for Nursery Funding
The government provides funded early education places for eligible children. Funding is applied directly to your child’s nursery place, but families must apply themselves and provide the school with the relevant confirmation details.
Step 1: Check Your Eligibility
Funding eligibility is determined by the government and depends on:
Your child’s age
Your family circumstances
Whether parents or carers are working
You can check which funded hours you may be entitled to via the Childcare Choices service.
Step 2: Apply Through Childcare Choices
All funded childcare applications must be made online via the government’s Childcare Choices website.
When you apply:
You will be asked for basic personal and employment details
If eligible for 30-hour funding, you will receive a unique eligibility code
For eligible 2‑year‑old or universal 15‑hour funding, confirmation will also be provided through the system
Step 3: Share Your Funding Confirmation with Us
Once you receive confirmation of your funded entitlement:
Provide the school with your eligibility code (if applicable)
Share your National Insurance number and your child’s date of birth, as required
Funding codes must be valid and confirmed before funding can be applied to a Nursery place
If applying for 30 hours, eligibility must be reconfirmed regularly in line with government guidance to avoid funding gaps.
Step 4: Funding Start Dates
Funding usually begins from the start of the term after your child becomes eligible:
Children become eligible after their 2nd or 3rd birthday, depending on funding type
Cut‑off dates normally fall around 31 March, 31 August, and 31 December
We are happy to help you identify when your child’s funding can begin.
Step 5: Register Your Interest with Tadworth Primary School & Nursery
Applying for funding is separate from applying for a Nursery place.
To be considered for a place at Tadworth Primary & Nursery School, please ensure you:
Register your interest with the school
Apply for funding in good time
Provide funding details as soon as they are available
Registering early helps us plan places and keep families informed as we prepare for our September 2026 opening.
Need Help?
If you are unsure about funding, eligibility, or application timelines, please contact the school office and ask to speak with our School Business Manager, Mrs Tara Cooke, who will be happy to guide you through the process.
