Year 4

Welcome to Year 4. By now you will be familiar with the routines of the juniors and learning will continue to be mainly through topics covered.

The Year 4 Team is made up of 4S – with class teacher, Miss Smith and her Teaching Assistants (TA) Mrs Clawson and Mrs Evans, and 4H - with Mr Hankin as class teacher and Mrs Townson and Mrs El-Ziftawy as TAs.

The Year 4 team aim to make learning as exciting and memorable as possible. We begin the year with an Owl visit; a trip to the Natural History Museum and we will have Year 4 sleepover, in the Summer term, to promote independence and team work.

Our curriculum is topic based, covering a wide range of topics that challenge and engage all children. Where possible, the Literacy and Numeracy subjects are linked through our topic work. Topics during the year include learning about India and The Tudors.

Over the past few years we have developed our creativity weeks to be a central part of our curriculum, and the children really enjoy: mask-making, theme park design, making torches and much, much more.

A highlight of our year is an enterprise project linked to Wimbledon. This involves the children planning, managing and leading a tennis event in school including the sale of refreshments. As yet, the weather hasn’t stopped play and the children tell us that the event’s ‘Ace’!
