The Soggy Doggy

As part of World Book Day, Year 6 took inspiration from Craig Smith’s wonderful rhyming picture book ‘The Wonky Donkey’ to write a rhyming picture book of their own about a ‘Soggy Doggy’.  A Scottish Granny’s reading of The Wonky Donkey to her grandson became a YouTube sensation in 2018 and really catapulted the book into the public eye.  The Year 6 shared piece involved the children working collaboratively with Mrs Allinson during lock down. We hope you enjoy ‘The Soggy Doggy’ with words by Year 6 and illustrations from Shreeyana and Izzy.

I was walking along the road and I saw a doggy.  Woof Woof!

He was laying in a puddle…He was a soggy doggy.

I was walking along the road and I saw a doggy. Woof Woof!

He was laying in a puddle…And he was wagging his tail…

He was a waggy-wiggy, soggy doggy.

I was walking along the road and I saw a doggy. Woof Woof!

He was laying in a puddle…He was wagging his tail…And he hadn’t had his walk that morning..

He was a grumpy-rumpy-pumpy, waggy-wiggy, soggy doggy.

I was walking along the road and I saw a doggy. Woof Woof!

He was laying in a puddle…He was wagging his tail…He hadn’t had his walk that morning…

And he was tired because he hadn’t had enough sleep…

He was a sleepy-weepy, grumpy-rumpy-pumpy, waggy-wiggy, soggy doggy.

He was laying in a puddle…He was wagging his tail…He hadn’t had his walk that morning…

He was tired because he hadn’t had enough sleep…He could smell the hot-dog van from up the street…

He was a hungry-wungry, sleepy-weepy, grumpy-rumpy-pumpy, waggy-wiggy, soggy doggy.

He was tired because he hadn’t had enough sleep…He could smell the hot-dog van from up the street…

And his favourite thing was to watch the kissing in romance movies…

He was a sloppy-soppy, hungry-wungry, sleepy-weepy, grumpy-rumpy-pumpy, waggy-wiggy, soggy doggy.

His favourite thing was to watch the kissing in romance movies…

And he decided to go home and curl up in his bed…

He was finally a cosy-dosy, sloppy-soppy, hungry-wungry, sleepy-weepy, grumpy-rumpy-pumpy, waggy-wiggy, soggy doggy.
